week 6

Week 6 was definitely the most challenging for me. The task was to record a music video in the studio and also a location music video. Then, we had to edit them both to make it look like a professional music video.

Because there was always a pair of producers, my friend Kamila and I decided to be them for this week, since we had not done that yet. We had to organize so much! First, we had to decided on the song and the artist. Our friend Eryk agreed to play guitar and sing "Rude" by Magic! for us. Because he was a student as well, we had to make sure that he was available to shoot during our workshop. The whole process was really stressful, especially because we knew Eryk was also not feeling that well. However, working with Kamila was a really good experience. We're very good friends and we understand each other well.

During our production meeting we decided on what roles everyone else gets and we informed the rest about our artist. Everyone agreed on the idea.

During Eryk's performance Kamila and I were responsible for the timing. Everything had to be perfect and Przemek was really strict about it. If we don't start recording at a specific minute, we lose our chance. We also worked with 4 cameras again, this time the 4th one was handheld.

The director for that week was Caleb, who is a really good student but he is a little bit quiet. Producers have to have a perfect relationship with directors (Millerson, 2012), and we all tried to work together as good as possible. After each take, we would tell Caleb what we thought was wrong and what else could improve.

Our other responsibility was to always check on our guest and also other group members. We had to make sure that everyone knew what they were doing.

Przemek handed us a stopwatch and we had no problem withwatching the time.

During recording of this show, Przemek went live on Instagram and streamed the whole thing, which was a really fun experience. I let my friends from Poland know what time it was gonna be and they could watch me being a producer in a studio!

Later, we had to find a location for our location music video. We decided that the Arts Center was the most spacious place we could find. It also had many options to film - both on the inside and the outside.

Kamila and I had to fill out the Risk Assessment and send it to Przemek. Then we had to talk to someone in charge from the Arts Center to get the permission to film there. It all went smoothly and a couple of days later we gathered there, ready to shoot. First we tried to film in one of a cinema halls, but it was too dark.

We decided to take the equipment outside and filmed it there. Because we had to have the same roles as the ones we had in the studio during Eryk's performance, Kamila and I were just watching everyone shoot and we made sure everything was under control.

The whole week was a success and I consider it to be the most interesting and enlighting of them all.
